I took a chance on “Prey” – a 2021 movie on Netflix this afternoon, and I have a lot of emotions coming your way for this one!
I’m not saying it’s the slowest villain arc, nor am I saying it’s the slowest burner, or that you have to, like really, have to watch this one. But there’s something so intriguing here.
What was this movie about again? Well, a group of five men decide to hike through a forest as a bachelor party only to find themselves amidst a chase for survival when a mysterious shooter kills one of them. But well, who is this mysterious shooter? And why does she walk around with a gun?
Guess we’ll know? OR not? Because what even was the point of this movie? It did NOTHING. No character development, no reason for flashbacks, no storyline that scratches the surface of the reasoning behind the kills. Nothing at all.
I am wondering what the director, and even more so, Netflix, was thinking by investing in this rather pathetic movie with literally NO POSSIBLE PLOT TWIST, or ANY PLOT AT ALL.
The movie had just one beautiful thing – a scenic natural park bursting with tall pines, a gushing river, and chirpy birds. But that was ALL and EVERYTHING you’d rather enjoy in this movie.
The plot gave nothing, but it still intrigued me. The whole plot was simply a chase, with the woman magically appearing wherever they went, as if she knew some areas that teleported her right around where the men hid, ALWAYS. One thing we know is that her daughter Anne was killed with a gun by a drunk man in the woods.
Is that all the reason you need to create a movie? With no end in sight. With no climax, nothing AT ALL! How crazy. And to say that I wasted 1 hour and 42 minutes of my life, well, guess who’s never getting that back.
